'Halloween Returns' Updates: Marcus Dunstan talks about the film, drops some major spoilers

Last February, the news revealed that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan will be writing the draft for the unusually delayed next Halloween movie, Halloween Returns. In June it was confirmed that Dunstan will be the director. And now, Dunstan talked about exactly what he plans in mind for the franchise of his upcoming film.

During the interview with Halloween Daily News, Marcus Dunstan revealed that the film will be based on the original 1978 Halloween by John Carpenter. He also revealed that the film will be dangerous and violent, reiterating Michael Myers's role. He spoke off the "subtlety and suspense" of the character.

In regards with the title, Dunstan explained that it was supposed to have a colon in between the words halloween and returns emphasizing on "Returns" as a subtitle but, it did not come out as expected. "If you commit a violent act, sometimes you get returns," he explained. "What are the repercussions of being a violent entity? In that case, Halloween: Returns could mean a number of things."

Alongside the revelation, the director also mentioned the recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser featuring a famous yet elderly Harrison Ford at the finale stating that their goal is to have a similar moment like Han and Chewie.

Later, when asked if he plans to create more sequels after his upcoming project, Dunstan quoted that he wants to make "The Dark Knight". He also said he wants the new film to be on its own accord. He mentioned that the "Aliens and The Dark Knight" are fully pleasing films by itself, but he will still continue another story and set up more movies to follow. He also revealed that Gillian Jacob will cast in his film in an undetermined role.

However, Screenrush reported that Halloween Returns doesn't have a scheduled release date yet, but it will focus on Deputy Gary Hunt, who merged with Dr. Loomis in Halloween II. Now as a sheriff, Hunt will be handling his own terrifying horror cases in Haddonfield City.

Moreover, according to an article on Bloody disgusting, Halloween Returns will be a standalone film intended to reinstate viewers to Michael Myers after years of his initial turmoil. It will feature a new group of Haddonfield juvenile who opposes Myers. One of Myers' victims who is now an 18-year old takes the central role together with the offspring of a cop who has been engrossed with Myers' case for long years.

Sooner, these two kids will sneak in to watch Myers's execution. But, the pair and their friends will later on find themselves in so much trouble.

It's confirmed that Halloween Returns will involve Michael Myers in the film. Beyond that, more details will soon start popping out. However, pre-production is advancing for a release sometime around next year.
