The Cyanogen OS 12.1 update for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop has reached OnePlus One devices over-the-air (OTA). The OTA update has a following number of YOG4PAS1N0 and will be arriving to every OnePlus One user at any moment now.
OnePlus has unveiled a couple of Stagefright fixes for Oxygen OS which are meant to target OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 devices. The said OTA update takes about 645MB of space and will fix various security issues.
An update for the OnePlus One was rolled back recently after it was revealed that there were some significant issues with it and the users experienced serious problems with their handsets. Of course, this was very disappointing to many who were expecting to get up to speed with the most recent Android version.
Fortunately, CyanogenMod developers have launched a new version of their popular CM12.1 custom ROM specifically aimed at OnePlus One. As previously reported by VCPost, it fixes almost all issues from the previous build and comes with additional security fixes as well as performance improvements.
Additionally, this new build addresses the Stagefright exploit, which is a serious security vulnerability that was discovered in Android that allows hackers to easily compromise a device and get access to parts of its operating system without them even knowing about it.
The flashing procedure with this custom ROM should be approached by the users very cautiously. Users have to make sure to read the instructions and compatibility notes carefully, for the risk of bricking the device is evident. Moreover, the procedure requires rooting of the device. A rooted Android device gives its user many options for utilizing the operating system to its full potential.
To those users who are more comfortable with modifying their devices and getting access to lower layers of the operating system, CyanogenMod is definitely advisable. It also allows users to take advantage from the latest developments in the custom ROM community, adding features to their devices which they cannot get through the standard Android experience.
