While momentum has been gaining for the film adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower', its supposed TV complement has not been reneged despite seeming lack of news. As the status of this venture is still on, suggestions that Apple should take on the Dark Tower series for its original programming on its Apple TV.
According to the Dark Tower Movies, the Sony Pictured Entertainment-Media Rights Capital announcement of a multimedia venture for the mammoth series still stands. While Sony is producing the film, MRC is developing the complementary TV series.
In the quiet development of the Dark Tower TV series, it is not clear whether film adaptation director Nikolaj Arcel will also be involved in the original programming. The same goes for whoever might be casted for the slated film trilogy.
In light of this, there have been suggestions of who should release the Dark Tower TV series. According to Inverse, should Apple's rumored plans of showing own content in Apple TV, the Dark Tower series should be one of its shows.
Drawing a comparison from HBO's Game of Thrones, the article explained how Stephen King's Dark Tower western series can rival GoT in terms of "depth, scope, and eight wildly popular books to draw from." As the books are finished, Dark Tower is perfectly suited to a serialized format with these qualities.
However, in the launch of the new Apple TV, Apple is still a content partner for streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO and Showtime and is still mum on its plans for live TV Internet streaming service of its own, so the Dark Tower for Apple partnership may not come in the near future. Stephen King has also not given comment on the TV series.
According to Venture Capital Post, King talked about not wanting anyone to take over the Dark Tower writing. It is logical to say that the author will definitely be involved with the TV series. However, the only news of him being in the film's production has recently made round, casting uncertainty in the TV series' progress.
Stephen King is scheduled to receive the National Medal of Arts at the White House on September 10 and to be interviewed on The Late Show by Stephen Colbert on September 11. Fans anticipate if he will give further information regarding the Dark Tower's film and its TV series complement or if there will be a future as an original programming whether on Apple or other services.
