The critically lauded 'Carol' poises for more festivals as Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara as they fall in love, and eventually, face the aftermath of being consumed in their hot and forbidden desire in the 1950's. Blanchett and Mara's impressive performances plus Todd Haynes' careful direction puts Carol and its cast among the awards season strongest contenders.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, 'Carol' provided a more detailed glimpse of what it is about in its newest trailer. Blanchet plays the titular character, Carol and Mara plays Therese, her eventual lover. The film,, as previewed by the trailer and reviews, shows "depth of the love" as well as the "height of the obstacles" their characters deal with.
The Weinstein Company released its newest trailer which features Carol and Therese from their initial meeting, to their intense and intimate relationship. Not all is happily-ever-after at once, as both women are challenged by complications. Carol, for example, may never see her daughter again if proven to be having a homosexual relation with Therese in court.
In an article by Deadline Hollywood, it is reported that Mara clinched the Best Actress award in the Cannes Film Festival, where the movie was thoroughly well received. 'Carol' also received astounding success at the Telluride Film Festival, which gives a clearer idea of Oscar odds, together with Cannes and Toronto. The film is set to participate at the New York Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival next.
According to Collider, 'Carol' may well be one of the most romantic films of the year. Regarded as revelatory, the movie also provides catharsis in its each character's journey for answers and solutions.
The article also wrote that the director and the writer uses "glances and hand placement "that "speak the loudest" to portray to women's covert love in 1950's.This is Haynes' directorial comeback after a long hiatus.
The Weinstein Company moved the release to November 20 which is a time similar to their previous successful movies The Imitation Game and The King's Speech. That bodes well for Cate Blanchet, Rooney Mara and Todd Haynes since, like their schedule predecessors, 'Carol' is coming out among the strongest contenders in the awards season mix.
