Fifth Harmony makes it their mission to support women, even if that means calling others out for going against it. Recently, the girl group spoke out about criticisms and s--t shaming while member Lauren Jauregui called out Justin Bieber.
The girl group made up of Dinah Jane Hansen, Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke Hernandez, Lauren Jauregui, and Normani Kordei, talked to Cosmopolitan in their latest interview published on Wednesday. In the latest issue of the magazine, singer Lauren Jauregui and the other members of Fifth Harmony called out those who s--t shame and criticize women with their sexy fashion style.
Putting their music career aside, the group spoke out how they get criticized almost every day for how they dress. Normani stated that they get assessed mostly from their fellow women. "Yeah ... it's ridiculous," stated Jauregui about the negative remarks they get for their revealing outfits. "Just because we dress according to our body types and dress the way that we want to. A woman embracing her sexuality isn't wrong, it's not being a s--t."
The former X- Factor contestants are famed for their women empowering songs, including "BO$", "Miss Moving On" And "Worth It". All of them have individual fashion styles and discussed that, despite of how different they all dress, they all get criticisms.
During the chat, Lauren gave an instance where they experienced the double standards by calling out one well- renowned male singer, as mentioned by SheKnows. "I've noticed on our video comments, it's people's go-to, to accuse us of the whole s--t thing,'" she continued. "Then they support men who do the craziest things and say nothing about them. F**cking Justin Bieber ... I'm sorry, excuse me. Justin Bieber takes his pants off, posts a pic of it, and it's like, 'OMG, he's so hot.' What. Is. That?! How is this reality? Know what I mean?"
Even with their bold comments, the girl group admitted that they in the past, they let the pressures of the industry affect them, but now, they have learned to be strong enough to stand in the way they are. "We've all grown to be stronger than before, and especially, when you're a girl in this industry, you're very scared," revealed Dinah Jane Hansen. She added, "You learn to have a thick skin. Camila also emphasized how people can't seem to move on that nowadays women can decide how they dress themselves.
Meanwhile, it's not the first time Fifth Harmony was criticized for their outfits. In a report by E! News, the group allegedly received a lot of s--t shaming Twitter posts after winning Favorite New Artist at the 2015 Kids' Choice Awards. These criticisms include many from fans of the all-male band 5 Seconds of summer, which was also nominated for the category.
Although the s--t shaming still continues, it seems like the group already learned to deal with it. Their die- hard fans evidently support the women empowerment campaigns of the group through their songs as they continue to hit music charts and garner awards.
