In the second season of The Leftovers, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) has had enough of Mapletown, New York and decides to move his family to the special town of Jarden in Texas. The new town is said to have been spared from a mysterious event that caused 2 percent of the world's population to disappear into thin air. Will changing towns see the end to the Garveys' troubles?
Apparently not. In an exclusive trailer obtained by Entertainment Weekly, life does not return to normal for the beleaguered family. Kevin may even have brought the Guilty Remnant cult to Texas with him. The trailer showed cult leader Patti, who appeared to have killed herself in season 1, clearly standing against a wall behind Kevin.
In the Season 1 finale of The Leftovers, the town was left in chaos and torn apart by the Guilty Remnant cult who placed life-like burial dummies in the homes of families who lost their members in the Sudden Departure. Leaving town to seek safety elsewhere might have been the best option for the Garveys.
The location change explains why a lot of the show's supporting cast of season 1 will not be back for the new season. The characters were mostly those who played Mapletown townsfolk and with the move to Texas, they have to be dropped and replaced with a new supporting cast reports LBTimes.
In addition to new supporting characters, TVLine reveals that the new season will also introduce the family of John Murphy and his hearing-impaired wife, Erika. They have two children named Evie and Michael. They are the seemingly friendly neighbors that greet the Garveys upon their arrival in Texas.
Same report says that the move to Texas is expected to shake things up for the show as this means that it also moves figuratively into an uncharted territory. The series already exhausted most of the plot from the novel it was based on.
It would definitely be interesting to see who among the supporting cast will survive the big move when The Leftovers returns Oct. 4 on HBO.
