Iconic musician Hank Williams is brought to life by Tom Hiddleston in the upcoming biopic "I Saw the Light." Moviegoers and fans are in a tizzy, as Hiddleston himself released a first glimpse of the movie with a clip of him singing "Move It On Over".
As reported by Variety, Hiddleston tweeted a clip from the movie where Hank Williams is recording "Move It on Over" in 1947. The last bit at the end of the clip showed his home life with wife Audrey Mae played by Elizabeth Olsen.
While some cast doubts to the casting of the British actor in a Southern iconic role, this first glimpse of him singing as Williams have dispelled doubts that Hiddleston can pull off the Alabaman's accent, look and essence.
According to The Franchise Herald, "I Saw the Light" director Marc Abraham is very happy with his decision of casting the Englishman. When asked why the casting choice, the director comments that Hiddleston is the "best actor" he knows for the part
In support of his point, he mentioned Vivian Leigh, the British actress who played "the most famous southerner ever portrayed in the movies" which is Scarlet O'Hara. Tom Hiddleston did not disappoint, as the director, and many of the people who watched the clip, would say he nailed it.
The Deadline Hollywood reported that "Move It On Over" is the legend's first hit. The song launched Williams' domination of the airwaves, and was the start of his "short but brilliant and enduringly influential career." Rock fans will recognize the tune from George Thorogood and the Destroyers' oft-played 1978 cover.
Tom Hiddleston's take on the legendary Hank Williams in "I Saw the Light," will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September 11. While the British actor is seen sing "Move It On Over" and a couple of others in this film, he is also part of the another Toronto selection "High-Rise" directed by Ben Wheatley, and Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak" which hits theatres October 16.
