Two companies join Green Power to create new Japan wind plants

Green Power Investment Corp., teamed up with SoftBank Corp. and Japan based Mitsui & Co. to produce a 48-megawatt wind farm along the Shimane prefecture in Western Japan, sources said.

Mitsui & Co., Japanese trading firm said that the farm will be built in Hamada. The construction of the plant will commence this month while operations are expected to begin three years later, said the three companies.

SoftBank Corp.'s renewable energy unit - SB Energy, has been at the forefront of the solar station development in Japan. The subsidiary is also currently involved in photovoltaic plants in the country. This venture will be SB Energy's first wind project.

Further details and data regarding the finances of the project were not disclosed.

Green Power's stakes are partly owned by SB Energy (47.8 percent). Other major companies such as Mitsubishi Corp., and Development Bank of Japan also hold some portion of Green Power's shares.
