'Alien 5' Updates: Director Neill Blomkamp denies on-hold status; Production clearly underway with concept art pictures reveal

By

Alien 5 director Neill Blomkamp denied any truth on rumors that the film will be put on hold because of Prometheus 2. The director also showed several concept art photos as production on Alien 5 continues.

As reported by Scified, Blomkamp directly stomped out rumors of hiatus in the production of Aliens 5. When asked if the sequel would be put on hold, the director succinctly replied, "Negative." The rumors of a halt in its development stemmed from Prometheus 2 being greenlit for production. The Prometheus franchise is a distant prequel to Aliens, both brainchildren of Ridley Scott.

While Scott is definitely working on Prometheus 2 now, Alien 5 is not stopping anytime in its production. However, in terms of release, Prometheus 2 may come earlier than Aliens, as Scott has insisted on itbeing made first. This move makes sense because as a spin off prequel, it also serves as a very good warm up to the return of the huge blockbuster success that is Aliens. Scott is also producing Aliens 5.

According to Movie News Guide, while there is no halt in production, the move in its release date is good decision for 2 reasons. First, Scott and 20th Century Fox would certainly benefit trying to avoid pitting the films against each other.

At the same time, actress Sigourney Weaver would be filming with James Cameron's "Avatar" sequel, making it difficult for the cheduling of Aliens 5 should it have followed its original timeplan.

In a Movie Pilot article, several concept art pictures of Aliens 5 production were featured. Dubbed as "impressive", the photos reveal that Lt. Ripley played by Sigourney Weaver and Corp. Hicks by Michael Biehn are both alive while the fate of Newt played by Carrie Henn is unknown.

The concept art photos came after Blomkamp also shared a 'Alien Room' photo which is composed of "concept art-filled walls, two chairs, 4 monitors and a replica of the iconic Power Loader."

'Alien 5' is definitely progressing, taking its time to carefully craft the concept and storyline. With Neill Blomkamp's denial of any on hold status, and the release of beautiful and promising concept art photos, the process of production is clearly in progress.
