Fans of Claire Bennet, Nathan Petrelli, and other iconic characters from the original "Heroes" series may finally rejoice. NBC is set to launch the rebooted Tim Kring-produced series every Thursday night this fall.
NBC has shared that the series premiere will pick up a year later after a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas. The 13-episode mini-series will chronicle the lives of people with extraordinary abilities who were blamed for the tragedy and now hide from those with nefarious motives.
Noah Bennet (Jack Soleman) aka HRG, a prominent character from past seasons will resurface. As he tries to move on from his dangerous past life, he’ll find out that it will only keep coming back to haunt him. This will be evident when we meet Frady (Henry Zabrowski), a conspiracy theorist who tracks down HRG to enlighten him about the Odessa attack.
Also in the same hour, viewers will get to know Luke (Zachary Levi) and Joanne (Judi Shekoni), two new vigilante characters who are out to get revenge for the tragic death of their son.
But while all these events are unfolding, some are just beginning to discover their own special abilities. The group includes: Tommy (Robbie Kay), an awkward teenager who just wants to be normal and get the girl of his dreams. He soon finds out that normalcy is impossible after learning an ability that terrifies him. A bold teenager named Malina (Danika Yarosh) has been told that she is destined for greatness. Then there’s quiet and unique Miko (Kiki Suzekane) is a Tokyo-based woman trying to find her missing father -- while hiding a great power that will make her a force to be reckoned with. In Los Angeles, an ex-soldier named Carlos (Ryan Guzman) will emerge as an unconventional type of hero.
This new group of individuals will be joined by familiar faces from the original series, including the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), and Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy).
Heroes Reborn is one of the hotly-anticipated new shows this fall, but in case you’re wondering why this year is the right time to revisit the NBC smash, creator/showrunner Tim Kring weighed-in in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he felt a strong connection with the fanbase who were left hanging after the network pulled the plug on the show. In the interview, he said:
“There was always a pretty strong fan base for the show, even when it was canceled. That year, we were the No. 1 most-downloaded show in the world. There was still a strong audience for the show but the paradigm had shifted in the way people were consuming content — and that demographic was starting to find shows like Heroes on other platforms. But now with the way shows are being presented with shorter runs and a smaller commitment to the audience — in this case, 13 episodes — it promises a beginning, middle and end so that the audience can now digest a show like Heroes.”
Heroes Reborn is slated to debut on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9PM on NBC.
