Assassin's Creed has finally commenced filming in Malta and fans are eager to know more about it.
Comic Book reported that the Malta Film Commission has announced the beginning of the film's production. Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender and winner Marion Cotillard stars in the epic film. Justin Kurzel directs with New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall as producers and 20th Century Fox as the sole distributor.
According to Christian Post, the film is reported to present a fresh new story and new characters as well. Nevertheless, it will still include several characters that fans of the game are familiar with, although it won't be based from any of the past Assassin Creed games.
Says Yvew Guillemot of Ubisoft, "We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started. This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."
As reported by Movie Web, the Minister of Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis said that this movie is the eighth major production of this year. It just goes to show that the Maltese government is reaping benefits with such strategy. "It is, in fact, the fastest growing niche in the Maltese economy, and we are working hard to keep the momentum," Lewis added.
Michael Fassbender will both act and produce the film, which is under Justin Kurzel's direction. The script is written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage.
"You say it's a long time, but what I've found - it's all new to me - but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time." He continued saying, "It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It's exciting. It's going to start this year; we'll be filming in September," Fassbender said.
The Assassin's Creed movie is set to release on December 21, 2016.
