Motorola's first generation Moto X has been reported lately to get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop soon but the Lenovo-owned company wants to do it a step at a time. Instead, Motorola and Verizon rolls out the Android 5.1 Lollipop to Moto X (2013) since last week and is currently running. Should Android 6.0 Marshmallow come after and skip 5.1.1 Lollipop?
Following US Cellular's pre-emptive release to the second generation Moto X (2014), Verizon now follows suit by updating the Moto X (2013) smartphone with Android 5.1. US Cellular's 2013 version has remained with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
For Android fanatics of Motorola, this only means one thing: Moto X (2013) is heading towards bigger upcoming updates. According to rumors, Motorola could also be skipping the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There is no final word from the company however.
Other devices soon receiving software updates from Android OS are DROID Turbo, DROID Maxx, DROID Ultra, DROID Mini, Moto Maxx, Moto E (2014), Moto E (2013), Moto E 4G/LTE (2014), Moto X (2015), Moto X Pro, Moto G (2013), and Moto G (2014). Future releases of Motorola Moto X Style and Moto X Play are expected to run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
