Finally, the long wait for the Verizon Moto X users is over. Android 5.1 Lollipop update has come to the original 2013 Moto X model as Verizon, also known as the Big Red carrier, approved the update for the handset at last.
All Moto X first generation models have been updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system in June, but not for Verizon's units. Thus, the update is happening exclusively for the handsets from the carrier. After getting the much needed update, the software version of the handset will change to 222.21.39.
As reported by Gotta Be Mobile, Verizon's official announcement regarding the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to Moto X came nearly a year late. As Motorola conducted a soak test over the weekend, various rumors and speculations were already circulating around the Internet. The soak test lets limited members of a special group from its forum test the software beforehand.
It seems that the firmware was satisfactory, according to the testers. That is why the update for the original Moto X was confirmed by Verizon right away.
Android 5.1 Lollipop build allows access to applications and Android services on other connected screens like televisions, cars, and wearables. The new material design brings 64-bit ABI support, complex animations and 3D views, and improved runtime. In addition, the update is expected to fix the security issues of Moto X, including the persistent Stagefright bug. It will also include the stolen device protection feature.
From Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system, the Verizon Moto X model will now be upgraded to Android 5.1 Lollipop with more performance improvements and features. The build will be introduced through a staggered roll out, which means that the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system will be available to all Verizon Moto X users over the course of four to five days. So, there's nothing to worry about if it does not come yet.
