Fear the Walking Dead, the latest zombie drama that's taking a bite from our weekly routine has been getting negative reviews. It appears that the spinoff have missed some elements that walker fans have enjoyed seeing from the original series.
Just three weeks ago, AMC finally launched Fear the Walking Dead – an offshoot project of its flagship series, The Walking Dead. In case you’re unaware of the show’s premise, “Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family,” according to a press release from AMC.
While these words are definitely compelling, it appears that the show is not living up to its hype. We’re already down to its third hour and sadly the happenings within each episode are lacking some unique, straightforward elements.
As TV Guide noted on a recent recap, “Nothing about the show's first three episodes give me any desire to watch these families exist in close quarters for a few more episodes”.
Creating a timeline for an apocalyptic show is usually a slow burn, but the writers didn't manage to deliver the first three episodes with something that can make the viewers glued to the screen. Rather, they offered a gloomy beginning.
Cory Baker of TV.com thoughtfully explained this flaw in a review of Sunday’s episode “The Dog”
“The second episode jumped wholeheartedly into that mass downfall very quickly, to okay-to-meh results, and then, weirdly, "The Dog" walked it back almost as quickly,” he said.
Baker also pointed out the show’s inherent disregard of keeping the scenes more fueled with suspense and mystery.
“Not that the world suddenly stopped crumbling here, but the show seemed somewhat disinterested in demonstrating the scale of that downfall,” he continued.
We still have another three episodes until the finale and with the not-so-good reviews, it’s definitely a critical point for FTWD.
Fear the Walking Dead airs every Sunday at 9PM on AMC.
