Wes Ball will still get to direct the final film of the "Maze Runner" trilogy entitled "Maze Runner: The Death Cure." He announced this during last weekend's premier of "Maze Runner: Scorch Trials." The final installment of the trilogy is set for release by 20th Century Fox in theaters on February 17, 2017.
/Film reports that with the second sequel of the Maze Runner series currently accumulating $35 million during opening weekend, a third one is already being whipped up. The first of the trilogy raked in $340 million globally with a $32 million debut. With these box office tickets sales, it is no wonder why things are being rushed for a third follow-up. Production is set to start on December and will be released in theaters on February 17, 2017.
Director Wes Ball himself confirmed that he will still direct the third part of the trilogy. He was also the one who took the helm on the previous films of the series. Based on James Dashner's teen books, the following sequel will be the final motion picture for the series. Ball intends to "do justice" to the material these films were based on from beginning to end.
According to Paste Magazine, Wes Ball feels privileged for being given the opportunity to oversee all three films of the trilogy. He even said he is glad to direct the final chapter of the trilogy. He and his team have been "setting up a lot of things that aren't necessarily apparent in the second movie, but will pay off big time in the third movie."
We Got This Covered adds more about Wes Ball's thoughts about "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" updates. "Ultimately our goal is to create an awesome three-movie trilogy", Ball told Variety at Tuesday night's red carpet premiere of "The Scorch Trials" in New York. "Not many people have done that and now I have the opportunity to do that. I am directing the third film and we've already been busy preparing and working on the final conclusion of this saga." By a stroke of good luck, reports say that the final sequel won't be divided into two, to Wes Ball's delight.
Fans of the books and the movie trilogy are staying tuned to more of "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" updates. With Wes Ball still in the director's chair to make sure things come to a beautiful end, it will definitely exceed expectations. Fans and moviegoers alike will have to find their way to theaters on February 17, 2017.
