This fall, ABC will launch its revival of the 1970s hit variety show, "The Muppet Show", created by the late Jim Henson. The new series which hails from Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) and Bob Kushell (Angert Management) will feature a whole new different approach in comedy.
According to the series description released by the ABC Network, "The Muppets" will be launched as a mockumentary narrating the events that unfold behind the scenes of a late night show called “Up Late with Miss Piggy”. Described as an adult Muppet show for “kids’ of all ages, the scripted series will also tackle the iconic characters' relationships, achievements, breakups and disappointments.
As to what happens in the pilot, the network has announced that the series premiere will open with Kermit’s attempt to make Miss Piggy happy. Elsewhere, Fozzie gets an invitation to attend Jay Leno’s house party. But a conflict arises when Bobo annoys everyone when he starts selling cookies for his daughter’s troop.
A review from Vulture states that the plot is going to be projected as a faux-reality television series, following the footsteps of NBC's smash comedies, "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation." “Series creators Bill Prady and Bob Kushell have made some bold choices, including shooting the entire thing with a handheld camera and presenting it as a series of “caught” moments,” the publication wrote.
The show will also feature an interesting storyline of Miss Piggy’s love life and her split with Kermit, according to an article posted by She Knows. Viewers are gonna have to tune in to find out how this conflict develops as they will discover that Kermit is now currently dating Denise, another pig who’s a rep from ABC Marketing.
"The Muppets" is an upcoming mockumentary from the creators of The Big Bang Theory and Anger Management. It is described as a faux-reality TV series which took inspiration from NBC's The Office and Parks and Recreation. The new comedy will debut on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10PM on ABC.
