Sprint Nextel Sues Dish, Clearwire to Block Proposed Offer

By

Sprint Nextel is the third biggest US phone company. In a statement issued by the company on Monday, it said that Dish Network has violated the Delaware law. Sprint also added that Dish has plans to fool shareholders and block the planned takeover by Sprint of Clearwire spectrum. Sprint filed charges against Dish in Delaware Chancery Court to block the tender offer.

The lawsuit comes in the middle of a battle which SoftBank and Dish are bidding for Sprint while Dish and Sprint are bidding for the wireless broadband provider, Clearwire.

Clearwire was also named in the complaint filed by Sprint.

SoftBank raised its offer for Sprint to US$21.6 billion last week. This was from the previous US$20.1 billion. If ever the deal is completed, it will give it 78% stake in the company.

Dish refused to comment regarding said lawsuit filed by Sprint. A copy of the complaint was not immediately available.
