"The Incredibles 2" Update: Director Brad Bird Will Be Bringing Ideas From "The Incredibles" In The Sequel; The Director Might Do A 2D Animated Horror Film

Writer and director Brad Bird will be incorporating elements and ideas in "The Incredibles 2" that he has came up and prepared for 2004 "The Incredibles" but just did not fit. The "Tomorrowland " director was separated from the beloved superhero family for 10 years, but it has made his heart go fonder and recharged his interest in working for the upcoming sequel.

While promoting "Tomorrowland's" release on Blu Ray DVD in October, Bird has talked about the story that fans can expect in the highly anticipated "The Incredibles 2." While he is keeping the specifics on wrap for the time being as regards to the plot of "The Incredibles 2", he did hint that some of the elements in the script are connected to ideas that didn't make it into the original film.

He stated that he had a lot of ideas that he wanted to put in "The Incredibles" in 2004 but some of the good stuff just did not fit. The American filmmaker who began his career as an animator said: "Certain ideas fit, but other things make you go. This is great, but I'd have to give up two other things that matter more to me to get this other thing in."

He added that there were a pile of ideas left over from "The Incredibles," but it is not really a major element to consider. There were just little scenes and ideas that he wants to play around with and develop. According to him, he needs a comprehensive and all embracing idea that will connect to the first film that went somewhere different and that was the one that took a little more time.

Recently, Bird has also expressed his desire to make a 2D animated horror film like the once in the 1990's. Bird was behind the 1999 classic "The Iron Giant," a hand-drawn animated film adaptation of Ted Hughes' Cold War fable. It has won multiple awards including Best Animated Feature in the Annie Award, Best Animation in Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, and Best Feature Film in BAFTA Children's Award.

Bird said: "I absolutely think that hand-drawn animation is valid and I actually hope to do one in the future with a large budget and a longer schedule than we had in Iron Giant."

"The Incredibles 2" does not have an official release date just yet; only an early teaser poster that was unveiled at this year's D23 Expo in California.
