Computer software maker SunGard Data Systems Inc was privatized back in 2005 for US$11.4 billion. It is now in the process of selling part of its data managing operations and the price is expected to reach US$2 billion.
This was confirmed by several individuals familiar with the possible transaction last Tuesday.
The businesses up for sale include data center space and technology infrastructure that would be made available to clients seeking data safeguarding measures. It has a reported earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of nearly US$200 million.
SunGard is currently owned by TPG Capital LP, Silver Lake Partners, Providence Equity Partners Inc, KKR& Co LP, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners LP, Blackstone Group LP and Bain Capital LLC. The ownership is working Goldman Sachs Group Inc with the possible sale.
The matter remains confidential. Officially, SunGard did not respond to a request for information while the private equity consortium ownership of the compan did not provide comment.
