Roku 4 might just be a few days away from launch as a new leaked photo has appeared after the FCC filing was also spotted.
The leaked image shows a chubby semi-rectangular device that seems to be wider than its predecessors. It still maintains the black and purple color scheme of Roku. Looking at the remote, it seems to feature unique buttons for ESPN and YouTube. There are two more of the buttons: one blue and one white. However, the text is barely readable.
Source of the Roku 4 leaked photo was taken from the company's own websites. A script was developed by a writer from AFTV News that searched for unpublished images on a website. The writer said that the script was already used for finding the 2nd-gen Fire TV when it was still unannounced. Images of the new Fire TV were taken. Curious about the upcoming Roku device, the writer used the script at the company's website.
Fortunately, the script did work on Roku's website. It was able to point to a link containing the alleged device from the company. The image was in a low resolution.
Roku 4 is not announced yet, but the new unpublished image adds weight to almost everyone's theory that the company might launch the new set-top-box soon. It could work similarly like the Roku 3, according to Pocket Lint.
Earlier reports and leaks of the much-anticipated device stated that it could feature the support for 4K streaming. An FCC filing was spotted in the wild, but it didn't confirm that it had 4K support.
Roku 4 might have been given the code name 4400X, as stated in the filing. While it didn't confirm the 4K video playback capability, the filing did say that it will have 802.11ac Wi-FI support, according to Engadget.
4K video streaming will require a fast Internet connection. Even most of today's connections have trouble loading 1080p videos on YouTube depending on the download speeds.
The FCC filing also revealed that the device was designed in the United States. It also revealed that the device was made in China.
There is no official announcement yet from the company. However, several reports are saying that the device could come out as early as October. Roku 4 may see the light of day very soon. The leaked photo, specs and the FCC filing all add weight to the rumors.
