In a strongly worded statement, Telefonica Czech Republic has threatened to file a complaint with the European Union as to the allocation and auction of the Czech Republic's mobile phone spectrom. The firm claimed that it was placed at a disadvantage due to the set conditions for the auction to held on Monday.
The Czech governent is reserving a specific spectrum for one new participant, claiming such move would help boost competition. Other telecommunications firms though see it otherwise, as it places the Telefonica of Spain majority owned Telefonica CR at a disadvantage because of the lower fees charged for the new entrant.
According to Telefonica CR spokesman Hany Farghali last Tuesday, "We consider the current conditions to be unbalanced. If they stayed this way so that they favor one subject. then we would have to consider all our optons, including a potential complaint to the European Commission against illegal support."
