During a press conference in New York just recently, Microsoft has announced that it will release a developer's version of its HoloLens virtual reality headset. The company wants to show the people something beyond the ordinary.

The Microsoft HoloLens developer's kit will be called HoloLens Development Edition. It is expected to be launched in the first quarter of next year with a cost of $3000, which is a bit pricey than expected.

According to Satya Nadella, the Chief Executive Office of Microsoft, those developers who live in Canada and United States as well as members of the Windows Insider program can avail the headset online. A maximum of two units can only be ordered.

Microsoft did not share any new information about its virtual reality headset. However, as previous reports say, the HoloLens has 2GB of RAM, 60Hz refresh rate, x86 processor, and 802.11ac. Moreover, the hardware is packed with space-age technology, as per Terry Myerson, the Vice President of Microsoft's Windows and Devices Group. It sports spatially-aware sound, high definition lenses, custom-built silicon, and movement sensors.

Furthermore, the company has showed off another game called Project X-Ray. This might probably be the most impressive application of the HoloLens to date. The demo involved a player using holographic arm cannon to superimpose robots that crawls out of the walls. It is also described as a mixed-reality, custom gaming experience.

The HoloLens will be completely untethered and would not require a computer, handset, or wires to function. It is not most likely to be projected as a mass-market, consumer-oriented device because of its high price. Nevertheless, it will absolutely be worth it.

On the whole, the Microsoft HoloLens will be more of an impressive business-focused virtual reality headset. Its price tag will definitely come with top-of-the-line quality, remarkable features, as well as a virtual reality experience like no other.
