Apple has launched Been Choice that blocks advertisements in mobile applications and native mobile applications such as Facebook and Apple's News App. The application works as a content blocker and VPN service. iOS 9 was rolled out in October 2 and it seemed to have a link in the advertisement blocking scheme.
Tech Crunch mentioned that Apple could have accidentally allowed the approval of Been Choice to its smartphones. The new app works as blocker content to Safari like Crystal, 1Blocker, and Purify. As such, users can enable the app to block advertisements whenever browsing on the web. Been Choice also works as a VPN service where it enables to route information to its servers and removes contents. Related report noted that aside from the mechanism of blocking contents, the new app also blocks iOS native apps like Facebook, Pinterest, Pandora, Yahoo and the New York Times apps.
Tech Crunch noted that Been Choice was created by co-founders Dave Yoon and Sang Shin. The developers said in the report that the new app aims to offer a choice for users to either block add or share data to be able to earn rewards. As such, users can earn some compensation upon the agreement to share behavioural data with advertisers, publishers, and app developers.
IB Times said that the new app puts a question to the generation of revenue for content publishers and app developers. Marketers have a great concern regarding the move of Apple since the new app hides paid surveys operation too. The report added that Apple may develop more blocker content apps in the future which may adversely affect the income of those concerned. On the other hand, NDTV reported that Been Choice is more powerful ad-blocker than Crystal.
Been Choice may introduce big changes among iOS users and the marketers due to its mechanism of work. Apple has no comment yet regarding the approval of such content blocker and its correlation to the new iOS9.
