FX teased the highly anticipated return of "Fargo" with a special screening last Wednesday and from the looks of it, the new season promises a more gripping storyline with an interesting throwback from the past.
Hollywood's ArcLight Cinemas was filled with fans, family, and friends, along with the new ensemble for this season (topbilled by stars like Kirsten Dunst and Patrick Wilson). Billy Ray Thornton, season one's protagonist, also graced the special event to show his support. The season one star also had interesting encounters with some of the celebrities, particularly with Dunst whom he let in on a practical secret in filming.
"I ran in to Billy Bob in Nashville just before I was about to go away and work and he told me to have production get me a Canada Goose," recalled Dunst during her interview with The Wrap. Leave it to Lorne Malvo to know how nasty the "Fargo" chill can be, given that Canada Goose is a popular line of winter wear.
The special premiere night also featured a fun portion wherein FX president John Landgraf read the phenomenal reviews that the show has received, to the delight of everyone in the audience. Noah Hawley, the series showrunner, also took time to thank the team behind the success of the show and for the support of the "fearless" FX network that brought the show to where it is now, Variety reports.
With the second season up to a very good start, executive producer Warren Littlefield told The Hollywood Reporter that the production was such a big risk as this season will focus on a new cast and a backwards timeline spanning thirty years from the setting of the first season.
"We jump off a cliff and we hope and we pray. Maybe we're a little crazy, but we like those challenges," Littlefield said.
The second season of "Fargo" takes place in 1979, in the middle of the rising threats caused by crime syndicates in Minnesota. Airing date of the pilot is scheduled on October 12.
