South Korea's media stated the country has extended its proposition on a US$7.3 billion or KRW8.3 trillion fighter jet project. The statement was made subsequent to the second-round of bidding that finalized on Friday. Three aviation manufacturers offered prices more than the approximated cost.
South Korea's Yonhap News Agency quoted the country's Defense Acquisition Program Administration officials. It said the state started bidding sessions on the 18th of June. It intended to import 60 next-generation fighter jets from 2017 to 2021. Since the opening of the vying process, South Korea had already held 30 sessions and all the proposals are greater than the budget.
The three frontrunners in the said bidding were Lockheed Martin Corp's F-35A, Boeing Co's F-15SE and EADS' Euro fighter Typhoon.
South Korea's F-X, the bidding project's name, was its largest weaponry import so far.
Baek Yoon-hyeong, the spokersperson for the Defense Acquisition Agency, said, "The bidding ended, and an additional bidding will resume on July 2."
