'Outcast’ TV Series By ‘The Walking Dead’ Creator Robert Kirkman To Be Released in 2016

Robert Kirkman's exorcism comic "Outcast," is set to premiere in 2016 on Cinemax. Ten episodes have been ordered for next year and the first episode is to be directed by Adam Wingard.

It's not just about the zombie apocalypse anymore for Robert Kirkman. With "The Walking Dead" on its Sixth Season this month (with a spinoff prior to its premiere, "Fear the Walking Dead") and its comic book counterpart about to reach its 150th issue milestone real soon, another horrifying series is about to rise again (not from the dead!) from his comics. And yes, it's still ridiculously horrifying, this time in a more spine-chilling and supernatural way.

"Outcast" follows the life of Kyle Barnes, to be played by Patrick Fugit (Gone Girl, Almost Famous) who was afflicted by a demonic possession since he was a child. He shuns the people he loves the most away for fear of inflicting greater pain to their lives and to himself. In his adulthood, he sought help from Reverend Anderson, to be played by Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Mad Dogs) who is a preacher and seems to understand his condition more than anyone else. Reverend Anderson believes that God chose him to be his soldier to fight the wars against all evil on earth. With his help, Kyle's journey begins as he tries to reclaim the life he lost from all those years in fear and darkness. But what Kyle discovers could ultimately change his life and all of humanity-forever.

"Outcast" also stars Gabriel Bateman as Joshua Austin, an eight year old boy who is also plagued by demonic possession which Kyle believes is different than others and may be connected to him.

The new exorcism series is produced for Cinemax by FOX International Channels, who will be the studio and international network for the series.

"Outcast" is based on an original comic by Robert Kirkman and artist, Paul Azaceta under Image Comics. Watch out for its TV release in 2016 on Cinemax.

Other works by Robert Kirkman include Invincible (also under Image Comics), Ultimate X-Men, Marvel Zombies under Marvel Comics and Haunt, which he collaborated with the co-founder of Image Comics, Todd MacFarlane.
