PlayStation VR Update: Release Coming Very Soon; Various VR Platform Titles Plus 'Omega Agent' Promised At Launch But No 'Until Dawn'

The most awaited wearable device to grace PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, is coming very soon. The promising VR (virtual reality) headwear will officially release first half 2016 although final date and price are undisclosed at the moment. Together with the launch of this much anticipated VR device are game titles that are sure to engage players in a totally different and exciting spectrum in digital gaming.

"We're really focused on games, so at launch we'll have a good suite of games," Richard Marks PlayStation Magic Lab Director explains according to Jamie Feltham of VR Focus. "We have some puzzle games, an action game.... we'll probably have some form of a racing kind of title," Feltham quoted Director Marks as saying. "We like to have a good breadth for a platform that something will appeal to anybody. And I think we really do feel like interactivity is a key element of entertaining VR gaming", Director Marks further said.

Moving on with PlayStation VR, "Omega Agent" is one title will grace the launch of the ambitious yet entertaining wearable come 2016. The VR game is a jet-pack riding action/adventure of sorts that features real life physical ramifications of virtual reality. Barry Meade, co-founder of Fireproof Games, and his team at Fireproof Studios will be in charge in developing this VR game for the PlayStation VR.

"Certainly for Fireproof, to us a new platform deserves new game," Meade told Tyler Treese of PlayStation Lifestyle in a recent interview. "While Omega Agent is technically an action game, it's actually mid-paced, pared-back, gentle game a la Pilotwings" he said. "We took a lot of care to make the experience as chilled as possible for our players so flying our jetpack feels a bit like having a chairlift cradle you about the skies," Meade further elaborated.

The interview with Barry Meade ended with him saying that "Omega Agent" is enhanced by Virtual Reality. "More than enhanced, it wouldn't exist, but for VR," Meade pointed out. "We specifically made a jet-pack-in-the-city game because we wanted to boost around a city in VR with total freedom," he said.

And finally, Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games says their game won't be hitting the PlayStation VR just as yet. "I'm not ruling out DLC (downloadable content)," Eddie Makuch of Gamespot quoted Executive Producer Pete Samuels as saying in an interview. "We just haven't found the right context for it", Samuels quickly added.

Samuels later on said fans hoping for a PlayStation VR version of "Until Dawn" should not hold their breaths because it's not happening anytime soon.

The release of PlayStation VR in 2016 opens another niche in the already over populated digital gaming arena. And with many competitors vying to capture the imagination of players worldwide like Oculus Rift and Hololens, PlayStation VR faces very stiff contenders. Only strong game developer support and continuous innovation of this very promising wearable will push PlayStation VR further ahead of the competition.
