Mazda CX-3, the new compact crossover SUV is the fifth model in Mazda's line-up of new-generation vehicles that feature the full range of SKYACTIV Technology and 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design. With global launches starting from Japan in the spring of 2015, CX-3 offers all the essentials people look for in car, a design of high quality and style, and the responsive driving feel.
With a line-up starting at under $20,000, Mazda CX-3 is one of the best looking and most affordable small SUVs on the market. Mazda CX-3 is offered with four powertrain types including Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) options across both the 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel and 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G petrol engines.
The SKYACTIV-G produces 146 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, according to Mashable. The powertrain is routed through a six-speed automatic transmission and out to either the front wheels or to all four if the car is fitted with the i-ACTIV all-wheel drive system.
The SKYACTIV technology is yet impressive on its economy. According to CarAdvice on its car review, after travelling two-and-a-half hours, the Mazda CX-3 2.0 litre petrol showed 6.1 litres per 100 km on the computer trip. This makes Mazda CX-3 to be the most economical compared to four-cylinder Ford EcoSport (6.5L/100km), Holden Trax (6.6L/100km), and Peugeot 2008 (6.5L/100km).
Among SUVs, Mazda CX-3 is quite low, with an official ground clearance of 155mm. As reported on Whatcar, the Mazda is shorter, squatter and lighter compare to other SUVs as Honda HR-V or Nissan Qashqai. This low design responds the most eagerly to steering inputs and its body stays relatively upright along twisty roads.
Mazda CX-3 offers a handsome and stylish compact design. With Mazda's Kodo design language, the CX-3's front end is sharp with sleek headlights and a prominent grille. It has swoopy lines and optional 18-inch alloy wheels that make this car the best-looking car in its segment, considering its affordable price.
The interior of Mazda CX-3 is larger and simple. The premium two-toned interior of Mazda CX-3 is fitted with a tech touch, Mazda Connect Infotainment (MZD Connect) of 7.0 inch color touchscreen and a head-up display projector.
MZD Connect, an easy-to-use system, is linked to a scroll wheel that sits inboard of the handbrake and utilise several shortcut buttons including one reach for music and navigation. For Mazda CX-3 with petrol powered 2.0 liter engine, Drive Selection feature switches the powertrain into a more sporty mode, while two USB ports and reverse camera are fitted to Maxx models and above.
