Capcom has confirmed that the Development Division 1 team is currently working on bringing the famous horror game in virtual reality. Although Resident Evil wasn't specifically named, the explanation of one of their virtual reality projects strongly suggests that a virtual reality horror game is in development by the Development Division 1 team.
Development Division 1 team is responsible for the much acclaimed Resident Evil franchise. The team recently established that they are most definitely looking at the virtual reality market. In Capcom's annual report (Integrated Report), the team explained the team's current projects. "At present, we are focusing our energy on challenging the virtual reality (VR) game market. In this terrifying world, you can twist and turn as you like, but there's no escaping the creatures closing in on you," according to Consumer Games Development Division 1 head Jun Takeuchi, "until you remove your VR headset and return to reality, that is."
Takeuchi also claims that, "An unmatched horror experience making use of the immersive experience only possible with a VR headset" is one of their possible future projects.
Capcom compared their current project with the experience found i their "Kitchen" demo shown off at the past year's E3 event. The positive response to their Kitchen tech demo convinced the developers to further pursue virtual reality games. The team also tagged VR as the "hottest market" as of the moment.
There is no plans for the franchises under Capcom such as "Devil May Cry" and "Dragon's Dogma". According to Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi, "They're also things I'd like to personally do, but there are no plans [as of now]."
Resident Evil virtual reality is not yet officially confirmed, but there is a strong possibility. Although there are currently two games in the series under development, Resident Evil 2 remake and the most awaited multiplayer-focused Umbrella Corps shooter.
