NVIDIA has brought the full performance of its GeForce GTX 980 GPU and crammed it in the new ASUS ROG GX700 laptop. Another addition is an attachable watercooler when overclocking is needed.
The new laptop is straight out of the ordinary, with the watercooling solution attached. The product specifications are not usually found on the average mid-end gaming laptop.
Aside from the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU inside, the ASUS ROG GX700 laptop is also packing the newest Skylake chips from Intel. Without overclocking, the i7-6700K processor is already at an impressive 2.7GHz on stock settings. Users can further increase the frequency with careful tinkering, according to WCCFTech.
In addition, the RAM is also expected to be at least 64GB DDR4. If that issn't enough, the new laptop is also expected to feature a 1TB fast solid-stated disk (SSD) for quicker loading times on applications and video games.
The ASUS ROG GX700 is one of the few laptops that sport the powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU. The graphics card brings the performance equivalent to its desktop version, which is ideal for 4K gaming.
Unfortunately, the 17.3-inch screen on base models only supports the FHD 1080p resolution. This just means that the frame rate will only go up while playing graphic-intensive video games.
For those who really want to experience the full power of the ASUS ROG GX700, they can order models with 4K screens, according to VR World. Both versions have support for NVIDIA's G-Sync technology to prevent screen tearing without sacrificing frame rates.
Attaching the water cooler automatically starts the overclocking on the laptop. There hasn't been any benchmark to gauge the power of the laptop, but ASUS has provided details.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 reaps a gain of about 43 percent, according to Digital Trends. RAM performance also spikes up to 2800MHz from the base frequency of 2133MHz. However, the Skylake processor has the most significant increase. A base clock of 4.0GHz can be achieved when the AIO watercooler is used.
Pricing is not determined yet. Considering the specs, it could be at least $2,500. The desktop-grade performance of the GTX 980 GPU could drive the price up along with the new Intel chips.
Without a doubt, the ASUS ROG GX700 is one of the best gaming laptops out there. However, aren't the specs and the watercooler overkill for a laptop?
