Elon Musk has completed the rebranding of Twitter, the social media platform he owns, as its website name or URL officially changes to X.com.

Elon Musk Announces the Transition of Twitter to X

Elon Musk announced the domain transition on X on Friday, saying that "all core systems are now on X.com."

According to the Verge, a notice also appears at the X login's bottom page, and it reads: "We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same."

Elon Musk Decided to Rebrand Twitter as X Last Year

The social media platform's URL remained twitter.com even after the tech billionaire acquired it in 2022. According to Variety, Elon Musk unilaterally rebranded Twitter as X in July 2023.

He said in a late-night post that Twitter was no longer the platform's official name as it had been renamed X, which shows his apparent fondness for the letter.

At the time, Musk wrote: "Soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds." The company then changed employees' email addresses to x.com and renamed its mobile apps to X.

Even before the $44 billion takeover deal in October 2022, Musk had already said he would change Twitter into "the everything app," X. To celebrate the new name, Musk placed a bright "X" sign on top of the San Francisco firm's building.

However, the city ordered the company to take it down after receiving complaints that the "extremely" bright "white stroboscopic light" was causing distress and nausea.

The x.com domain name has been associated with Musk for quite some time. In 1999, he launched a company using the URL that eventually merged with what would have been known as PayPal.
