Huawei US P8 Lite Supports Android 5.1, But with a Catch

By

As more and more news is being released on the launching of Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, OEMs are getting ready by updating their devices for the 5.1 Lollipop as minimum groundwork for Marshmallow.

Huwawei released a statement through their website stating, "Starting today, Android 5.1 (Lollipop) is available to Huawei P8 lite owners. Interested customers can download and install this current release version of the software now. We look forward to your feedback."

There is a downside to the 5.1 update for US's P8 as it will require a manual software update which will erase all existing files on the user's device. This Android L release is designed for the Huawei P8 lite, model ALE-L04, build ALE-L04V100R001C00B124.

According to Android Central, The update will also require a minimum free storage space of 4gb. Why all that memory? Because there are two files which one needs to decompress. The process can be a bit complicated given that files are to be transferred to a folder in an SD card with the minimum space required.

The Huawei P8 lite has a 5 inch edge-to-edge screen, 2200 mAh battery capacity, a dual sim capability and a 1.5GHz qualcomm oct-core processor. It is well known for it's video and photo editing capabilities as well. The smartphone can be purchased today at $249.99 from the official Huwawei website.

Earlier this summer, the Huawei P8 lite launched with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The release of version 5.1 is a breath of fresh air for most Huawei P8 users who have been living off the outdated OS.
