HTC has released Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates on its support page revealing a bunch of devices to receive the software. One M8 units are on top of the list confirmed to get the official Marshmallow update via over-the-air release in the fourth quarter of 2015.
HTC One M8 device is confirmed to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software via a post of the Taiwanese giant outlining the biggest software update in Android history's estimated time of arrival (ETA). Accordingly, Marshmallow will come around November to December this year.
This device is currently running on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software version and will skip 5.0.2, 5.1 and 5.1.1 versions. Android 6.0 for One M8 is now in development stage where the device manufacturer incorporates the Sense user interface (UI) with the new Android build.
Testing stage shall follow immediately at least two weeks after the development succeeds. In this stage, HTC will assess the performance of Marshmallow through dummy phones. When successful, official release shall begin depending on the carrier and region.
The Android 6.0 Marshmallow software will come with new features and improvements. On top of Marshmallow sweet treats is the most coveted Sense 7.0 UI of HTC. Here's a detailed rundown of what Marshmallow will bring:
Google Now becomes more intuitive with Marshmallow. The new Google Now gives information from third-party apps to a pool of data and sifts it through. Google Now give information like nearby restaurants, map locations, sorts of reviews, upcoming events, and more. This operates by press holding the home button while launching the app.
Doze is the new battery saver of Android phones. Battery drain problems will be minimized through Doze by killing apps that are not in use or are running in the background. This feature also manages apps and features consuming too much power. This operates through hardware sensors and software modifications.
App Permissions. This feature operates by asking users whether they would allow or deny a certain app from launching, a link to be opened, etc.
Marshmallow also brings enhanced cut, copy and paste, better app backup and restore, direct share, device switch, simpler volume controls and support for various mobile payments.
