Android 6.0 Marshmallow enables the usage of MiscroSD card as an internal storage

By

Android developer StereoMatch have discovered that Android 6.0 Marshmallow has the capability to use microSD card as an internal storage. To set this up, the phone will give options whether if it is portable storage or internal storage that the user would like to use. In this regard, if the phone's internal storage is 8GB and microSD card is 32GB, the total space for user's files is 32GB.

Android Community mentioned that the original internal storage will not merge with the card. In addition, only the now-internal storage will be detected when looking at the section of Storage and USB. The report also said that users can choose whether they would like to use such mechanism or not. Though, this capability will serve as an advantage for devices that have low memory space. This is because if a phone has 4GB internal memory only, the microSD card can provide more memory size depending on its content.

As expected, users can save their photos, videos, music, files, applications and app data on either types of storage Tech Times mentioned. Such mechanism requires reformat and encryption on the phone. As a caution, all previously saved files on the card will be deleted after the reformat, Android Headlines noted.

Also, users who eject the card from the phone will erase all files in it. In this regard, if users will choose such option, they need to create back up files in order to save important files. Nonetheless, users can also insert the card into a computer and can still have the same capability, related report noted.

Google has not yet released Android 6.0 Marshmallow and does not have an official statement on its launch date. Nevertheless, such benefits are something to look forward to once the software is made available for Android users..
