MacBook Pro versions with anti-reflective Retina displays have issues with its coating that Apple is currently addressing by replacing the entire screen for free. Some versions' anti-reflecting layer delaminates, which compromises the visual experience of users. As part of the repair, the company is the one contacting those who are affected when passed the eligibility date.
BGR mentioned that Apple's program covers the affected MacBook and MacBook Pro which were bought three years from the original purchase date or one year from October 16, 2015. To process or request for a free repair, users can get an appointment to Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Providers. The mentioned authorities check the status of the MacBook to check for its eligibility of free screen replacement. The report added that affected customers who have paid for the replacement can get a refund through AppleCare Support, especially those that are not enrolled to warranty anymore.
There are circumstances that affect the damage on MacBook's screen, MacRumors noted. Such factors include the pressure on keyboard and trackpad whenever the MacBook is folded and the misuse of cleaning solutions with microfiber cloths. The affectation starts from a small area of the screen until it encompasses the entire display. This is not the first time Apple will do such Quality Program for free replacement and repair for its customers since the company launched similar thing previously. These were the issues in iSight camera for iPhone 6 Plus, Beats Pill XL Speaker, and iPhone Sleep/Wake Button, MacRumor reported.
On the other hand, MacRumors was the first to identify the issue in March. The issue have spread on Apple Support Communities, Facebook, and its discussion forum which increased the awareness of users. As per the report's record, there are nearly 6,000 affected customers who shared images of damaged displays on Staingate and some even signed to Change.org petition. Such number has called the attention of Apple to act on the issue.
Customers who are facing screen issues on its MacBook can ask for free repair from Apple. It includes those that are out of warranty and falls under the eligibility criteria.
