Unofficial Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Available for OnePlus One Users

By

Owners of the OnePlus One will be glad to know that there is an unofficial Android 6.0 Marshmallow update now available for the phone.

The AOSP custom ROM update for the phone arrives weeks after Google officially unveiled the Android M update along with the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P.

Smartphone manufacturers and mobile carriers will still need to confirm whether they will roll out the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. OnePlus One users can, however, use an unofficial one posted in the forums.

The update is based on the CyanogenMod 12.1 kernel, according to UberGizmo. Some users may see this as an advantage as Cyanogen custom ROMS are wanted by many due to its look and added customizability in settings. Since this is AOSP, the look and feel will be close to the stock Marshmallow ROMs.

For those that want to try the update, they will need to have basic knowledge on flashing custom ROMS. It needs to be flashed using a custom recovery tool already installed in the phone such as the popular ClockWorksMod (CWM) or TWRP.

The ROM's name is AOSParadox Project 1.0 ROM, according to the International Business Times. It should be noted that there are still bugs present in the build and it may not be as stable as the previous versions.

As a precaution, the OnePlus One should have at least 80 percent in battery charge in order to install the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. If the phone is undercharged, it might suddenly turn off in the middle of the installation, which could leave the phone bricked permanently.

Before booting into recovery mode after downloading the file, the USB Debugging mode must be turned on, according to Neurogadget. This is to allow a computer to modify files on the phone in case it gets soft-bricked or the update fails to install.

Once the Android 6.0 AOSParadox ROM is installed, it might take a while for the OnePlus One to boot. It could boot a few minutes more than usual at the first try.

OnePlus One users need to know the risk of flashing the unofficial Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on their phone. There are no announcements from the company if they will be rolling out an official update soon.
