The premiere episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 started in a rather gloomy note, with Master Splinter gone and Earth destroyed. The foursome group of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michaelangelo, together with Casey Jones and April O' Neil, began a new journey in space with a new character known as Fugitoid.
In the finale episode of the third season, the turtles were saved by a cyborg name Professor Zayton Honeycutt, a.k.a Fugitoid. This new character in season 4, played by David Tennant, will serve as their leader following the tragic death of Master Splinter. In a post from Comic Book Resources prior to the episode premiere, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles executive producer Ciro Nieli revealed that with the absence of Splinter in season four, Tennant's Fugitoid is stepping up a bit.
Going back to space, the turtles were getting excited to suit up in their spacesuits. One of the best moments in the episode, according to IGN, was when April donned her spacesuit similar to her iconic yellow jumpsuit from the original series. Leo specifically looked like he was transported to Space Heroes heaven, gleefully donning his helmet for the first time.
While travelling in space, Fugitoid's spaceship was hit by an asteroid. They all went out to investigate the damage and found out that larger asteroids were coming. Afraid of another hit, Fugitoid decided to set down the spaceship to a nearby planet, which was unfortunately not part of the Federation. After several encounters with the aliens, they ran back to the spaceship and decided to take off, but not until they crossed paths with an insectoid named Lord Dregg. The group eventually escaped Lord Dregg and his insect robots.
According to FanSided, the Season 4 premiere laid out the new status quo very effectively and essentially repositioned the show as a sci-fi romp for the time being. There will be more adventures to come as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles embark on a new journey in space, with Fugitoid as their new master.
Watch the adventures of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 at 11am ET/PT on Nickelodeon.
