Soon after its third season ends, "Instant Mom" will not be renewed for another installment. This means that Nick at Nite's block of original programming is now on a very crucial position.
It's official - "Instant Mom" will be finally taking a bow after three seasons. The family comedy, top-billed by Tia Mowry-Hardrict, will not be renewed after season three ends come December this year. The show has lasted for a total of 65 episodes in a span of three seasons, making it the longest Nick Nite original series to have ever aired. This supersedes 2012's See Dad Run, which aired a total of 50 episodes in three seasons as well.
A lot of factors have been attributed to the unfortunate cancellation of "Instant Mom". TV Series Finale reports that the show's shifting of networks from Nick at Nite to TV Land resulted to a huge dip in ratings and a general loss of interest from the viewing public. With "Instant Mom" being the only show left in Nick Nite until the third season, all of the channel's originals have been officially put on hold.
Deadline also adds movement of network where the show is broadcasted has been greatly influenced with the internal leadership shakeups within Viacom, TVLand and Nick at Nite's flagship network. TVLand, which currently houses "Instant Mom" is now under the leadership of Cyma Zarghami who is known to be primarily affiliated with Nick at Nite programming.
With literally no original shows onboard, it would seem like Nick Nite's block may be in serious trouble and may need to keep up with the times as soon as possible. CinemaBlend contends that the channel may have lost its signature identity as TVLand literally employs the same format as theirs, with the only difference that the latter has garnered positive results in their efforts.
They further suggest that in this fast-paced and ever-evolving television industry, Nick at Nite may need to offer programming that is in the mix of what is trending as of the moment. An example of which is delving on late night talk shows that are very apparent in rivaling networks. However, all of these are still just speculations and the only thing certain is that Nick at Nite's original programming block is in a huge fiasco.
With the upcoming series finale of "Instant Mom", expect more fun and heartwarming scenes that will finish the whole show on a very high note. Catch the 'Instant Mom' as it airs every Saturday, 8/7c on TVLand.
