Super Troopers 2 Confirmed for 2016 Release: Filming begins after successful campaign, cast shares set photos from first day of shoot

After its successful crowd funding campain, Super Troopers 2 was finally moving forward with its production. The cast has also shared their excitement during their first day in the set through their photos in their social media accounts.

More than a decade after the previous installment, the sequel to the comedy crime mystery is finally under way. As reported by Variety, the film is now officially a go after its Indiegogo campaign generated more than $4 million dollars.

The campaign had 50,000 contributors. Moreover, incentives included a producer title for $10,000, while a speaking actor role is also included for $10,000. $15,000 entitles a trip with the main cast to the ballpark, and the patrol car is allotted for $35,000.

Initially, the goal of the campaign was to raise $2 million in order to show 20th Century Fox that the franchise has sufficient following to release a film. However, as cited by /Film, the goal was met after a day into the campaign, and it eventually ended up reaching more than twice the initial planned amount.

Super Troopers 2 is expected to witness the return of the Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske, and Paul Soter to reprise their respective roles. They have also shared photos from the film's set in their social media accounts, with one of the pictures even featuring Heffernan in front of the classic state trooper vehicle.

Last August, The Broken Lizard updated about "a (near-final) script" and hinted on what could be expected from the forthcoming project. As cited in Entertainment Weekly report, the group wrote, "For anyone who doesn't know, two of the Lizards are making out with each other in this movie. There's also going to be more male nudity - we're still giving back to the ladies after all these years".

Jay Chandrasekhar is back to direct Super Troopers 2 which is currently listed for a 2016 release date. Official plot details are currently scarce for the comedy crime flick, however, more details are expected to be revealed soon.
