Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be closer to the first film. However, even with the return of some characters from the previous films, Mackenzie Crook confirmed that his Ragetti will no longer return in the sequel.
Captain Jack Sparrow is back and he is set to find the mythical Trident of Poseidon in an effort to ward off his evil ghost nemesis Captain Salazar who came back to kill every pirate at sea. As cited by Master Herald, the film will also be closer to its roots.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be inspired by the first film in the franchise and will contain elements that the franchise's followers loved about in the previous installments. Moreover, as reported by Latino's Health, newbie Kaya Scondelario also revealed that the decision to navigate back to the first movie will also allow these elements to be tied up which could eventually lead to more story arcs for future films.
"It [does have] a lot more of the first movie, that's what they wanted to bring it back to", Scondelario said. "[The producers] want to take it back to the beginning again. They wanted it to have this epic journey, and for it to make sense, and for it to tie things up, and also lead to new storylines', she added.
Meanwhile, despite the return of previous characters like Orlando Bloom's Will Turner, Movie News Guide reported that Mackenzie Crook's Ragetti is not to be expected in the film. Crook confirmed recently that he took down the offer to reprise his role in order to focus on newer projects.
"When it comes down to it, it's a choice between doing a character again that Ifirst did 12 years ago - and it's a little part in a big Hollywood movie - or doing my own passion project", Crook said. Crook is set to appear in a much more different role as Andy in 'Detectorists'.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was filmed in Australia and is currently in post-production. It is directed by Joachim Ronning with Espen Sandberg and written by Jeff Nathanson. It is currently slated to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
