Metal Gear Online Big Patch Coming Up This November; Improved Balance Within The Game With Match-Making and Weapon Adjustments

By

The official Metal Gear Online Twitter page announced on October 27, 2015 that the game will have a patch update slated for November this year. The main thrust of the patch is to improve balancing within the game starting with match-making and weapon adjustments.

The official Konami message board posted the October 10 announcement (as linked from the tweet above) detailing the patch notes.

Improvements to match-making include being "matched with players of similar level to your highest character level." This means less mismatches and better competitive multiplayer games. Konami also made sure that players will not be able to join a host with poor network connection. An adjustment like this will help players have a better user experience and more games with less lag.

There is also a mission adjustment in Cloak and Dagger where the game ends when all teammates are incapacitated in the game. The smart adjustment will help facilitate and expedite winning, as incapacitated players are essentially useless in combat anyway.

Loadouts will also be tweaked in the patch. For example, the enforcer class will now have access to machine guns and launchers. Plus, the infiltrator class can now carry shotguns.

Weapon sway will also be reduced across the board when using first-person view, specifically that of machine guns. This makes the machine gun more accurate, if not more powerful when used by skilled players.

While some weapons will become stronger, some weapons like the Walker's gatling gun will be stifled a little bit. All these changes are in-line with MGO's desire for overall weapon balance.

Being a stealth game at heart, Konami also addressed the character speed, increasing mobility and faster traveling. The scout class, for example, will have increased health and will be able to quickly mark targets using binoculars.

The November release is very meaty just by looking at the patch notes. According to Beta Releases, "Konami is working hard to fix the numerous bugs and issues plaguing Metal Gear Online at the moment."

It should be noted that the released patch notes is official, but Konami also said that the patch is still a work-in-progress. MGO fans should expect more changes and tweaks to the patch as it nears shipping date in November.
