Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphones of AT&T are expected to be cap off the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software update in November as the South Korea giant confirmed to release the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the first quarter of 2016. The final Lollipop update comes in with improvements in user interface, security, device management and more.
AT&T is about to end the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to its Samsung Galaxy Note 4 units this month. The carrier followed Sprint's pre-emptive move to update its versions of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version amid the fuss about the release of Google's biggest software upgrade in Android history early next year. As many hopeful owners have been wanting, Galaxy Note 4 still saw a glimpse of Android Lollipop's final update before Marshmallow hits the ground.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on AT&T sports a build number SM-N910A. Most of its units were previously running on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop version. Meanwhile, carriers like Verizon, US Cellular and T-Mobile also have just yet to update to the final Lollipop version while Sprint already released it since September.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop brings a host of enhancements to device management, security, user interface and several others. Google has put greatest emphasis on security following the Stagefright vulnerability threat brought by Android 5.0.
Lollipop comes with tighter protection like automatic encryption to guarantee the safekeeping of data privacy when device is lost or stolen. It also brings protection against malware with security-enhanced Linus software.
With Android Smart Lock, users have the option to pair device with another trusted device such as smartwatch, to verify user identity. The device can also be operated using the trusted device when near to each other without the use of PIN code, passcode, etc.
Multiple user and guest mode also offers convenient sharing features when device is borrowed by or lent to a family or friend. They are only allows to designated apps or screen as set by the owner.
