IFA 2015 featured a lot of tech highlights for some of the big players, and one that stood out was the announcement of Huawei's latest smartphone handset, the Huawei Mate S.
In last September's launch of Huawei's latest flagship product, the company repeatedly referred to its design mission for the product - to keep the Mate S's design pure and simple. And true enough it has proven to have achieved that feat as International Business Times has claimed the Mate S to be a worthy rival to Apple's iPhone 6s stating that it is viewed as 'a blend of HTC's One smartphones, Apple's iPhone and the Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge.'
Unlike the iPhone 6s, however, the Huawei Mate S's fingerprint sensor is located at the back of the device and not in front. Huawei moved it to make it more convenient as the company would claim.
The phone sports a 5.5 inch screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, just the same as the iPhone 6s. Though, unlike Apple's LCD IPS technology, the Mate S makes use of AMOLED. The camera has a 13 megapixel sensor plus image stabilization mechanism. Surfaces of the phone are protected in a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 shield that gives the Mate S a good amount of screen and camera lens covering.
PC Advisor measured the device at 149.9x75.3 mm and weighs about 156 grams which gives users a good feel as it is smaller and lighter than the iPhone 6s. GSM Arena states the colors that the device is available in, which are Luxurious Gold, Mystic Champagne, Titanium Grey.
The phone currently runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop mobile operating system, but with Huawei's partnership with Google, it is foreseen that users will be seeing an Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade for the phone.
The Huawei Mate S is currently available for pre-order via VMALL, the official Huawei and Honor stockist in the UK. Delivery time can be anywhere between four to five weeks.
