Hi-Rez Studios announced via an official blogpost that they will hold a 14-week Odyssey that will pave the way to the Smite World Championship 2016. Simply put, this 14-week Odyssey is a grand promotional tool to spread awareness of both the game and the world championship.
Amanda of Hi Rez Studios detailed the benefits of Odyssey to loyal Smite fans. "Every Odyssey item comes with a free Odyssey Chest, which can include almost anything in the game. In addition, you can earn bonus items by collecting specific amounts of Odyssey items! These milestone rewards are available at 3, 6, 9, 12 and 14 total Odyssey items collected," she said.
Amanda added that the Odyssey items will not be all skins and that Items will be exclusive during the event. In addition there will be limited and exclusive items each week.
Smite is one of the most popular MOBA in the world because it is very competitive and fun. Its reviews were good as IGN gave it a high score of 8.5, Metacritic gave 83 out of 100, and GameRankings gave a 87.62% score.
This is not a big surprise as the Georgia-based Hi-Rez Studios is one of the best independent game developers in the gaming industry. Hi-Rez is responsible for the highly touted remake Tribes: Ascend. The company also employed ex-developers of the now defunct City of Heroes, Battlefield, and Elder Scrolls. Hi-Rez is also one of the biggest developer/publishing companies in China with its highly publicized partnership with giant Chinese holding company Tencent.
Some of the games that Hi-Rez developed includes the aforementioned Smite: Battleground of the Gods, Tribes: Ascend, Paladins: Champions of the Realm, Jet Pack Fighter, and Global Agenda. All of these games were received very well by the gaming public.
Odyssey items will still be available a few weeks after the world championship that will be held on January 7, 2016. However, the items are no longer available for purchase after that. Smite: Battleground of the Gods is available for the Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
