Apple is reportedly choosing between Samsung's OLED display or its screen supplier Japan Display Inc. (JDI) for its iPhone 7 screen technology. Other rumors say that TSMC will be the chipset supplier for iPhone 7, not Samsung.
It is possible that Samsung's organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays could grace the screens of the next-gen iPhone 7. Christian Post reported that Apple is considering a partnership with Samsung to manufacture OLED displays for the iPhone 7.
The report added that another option for Apple would be to source its iPhone 7 displays from its exclusive iPhone screen supplier Japan Display Inc. (JDI). Apple reportedly invested $1.4 billion in JDI to build its screens, though the plant is only allowed to start production in 2015. There are rumors that say Apple will still have JDI as its manufacturer for the iPhone 7 IPS LCS screens.
Forbes reported that OLED displays have an edge over LCD displays. OLED displays are proven to produce more vibrant and clearer images, and with wider viewing angles than their LCD counterpart. An OLED screen is also said to be more efficient in consuming power and has a life span that can rival that of the LCD's.
Because of these reasons, Apple is considering to switch from LCD screens to OLED displays for the iPhone 7. Using OLED technology on the iPhone 7 could significantly set it apart from previous generations of iPhones in terms of display quality. It is said that Apple has stuck with the LCD since the company is already an expert in using the technology.
Another rumor suggests that TSMC will be Apple's manufacturer of chipsets for the iPhone 7, Venture Capital Post reported. The current iPhone 6s line houses two processors made by Samsung and TSMC. It is possible that Apple will be partnering with TSMC to produce future chips.
The iPhone 7 will reportedly no longer have the trademark home button of the iPhone. There are possibilities that sapphire displays and force touch could be used for the iPhone 7.
All information about the iPhone 7 are currently based on rumors since Apple has not released any official statement about the device yet. Apple is expected to decide on which display supplier it will partner with by the end of November.
