Bandai Namco, in collaboration with Capcom, is reported to be planning for a 2016 release of the highly anticipated crossover fighting game, Tekken X Street Fighter. As general belief points out that the game should have been released on an earlier date, the game developers provided explanation for such.
Heading the development of the crossover between Bandai Namco and Capcom games, Japanese Game Director Katsuhiro Harada says that they are looking at a 2016 release date for the crossover game. According to Vine Report, he explained such delay as the developers' efforts have been focused on the recent development of Pokken Tournament and Tekken 7. However, Harada said that they are aware that the game should have been released earlier and that his team is working twice hard to deliver it sooner.
For those who were doubting about the game's existence, Harada said: "I've been saying this since before, but the fact of the matter is that we're at a pretty far stage into its development. It might seem like we haven't started on it at all, but the character lineup has been decided upon since a very long time ago and we've already finished the polygon models, moves, and systems." Nevertheless, Harada assured that they would be releasing a 'near-perfect game' despite the delay. He added that the delay is difficult to talk about and even admitted that they were also expecting for an earlier release, Gospel Herald reported.
The game was initially announced in 2010 during the Comic-Con International at San Diego, with fan favorites Ryu and Jin Kazama featured in the promotional poster. It is said that Tekken franchise's 3D fighting game engine shall be used for a PS3 and Xbox 360 release, reported Christian Post. In 2012, it is said that the game is already in its 10% development when Bandai Namco held in its official Facebook account a fan poll on who among the existing Tekken and Street Fighter characters they want to appear on the crossover game. Fans were able to choose five from each of the 56 Tekken characters and the 66 Street Fighter characters.
The game may be released at a later date than what was expected, but the developers have assured fans for a 'near-perfect game'. Planning to be released on 2016, it is said that Bandai Namco's and Capcom's Tekken X Street Fighter may be available for PS3 and Xbox 360.
