‘Terminator Genisys 2’ News: Skydance CEO says no to 2017 premiere? Emilia Clarke says yes to Sarah Connor

'Terminator Genisys 2' is a planned follow-up to the 2015 film of the same name. Skydance CEO Dana Goldberg says that despite the rumors, the sequel is merely "re-adjusting" and reassessing itself and is not on-hold. Emilia Clarke admitted that she couldn't say no to playing the legendary Sarah Connor.

According to Tech Times, Dana Goldberg of Skydance Media debunked rumors suggesting the end of the science-fiction franchise. She said, "I wouldn't say on hold, so much as re-adjusting." The plans to pursue a trilogy and a television series were previously announced in 2013.

Goldberg also admitted that they were proud of the success of 'Terminator Genisys' but could have done better when it came to domestic sales. The first film was received poorly by critics although Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the franchise as the titular character was praised.

According to Forbes, the first 'Genisys' film earned a disappointing $90 million in North America but solidified itself as the second highest-grossing film in the franchise after it snagged an additional $350 million overseas. A large chunk of their earnings came from China alone. A sequel was then slated for a premiere in May 19, 2017 but with the way things are developing at present, it is unlikely to open in time.

Meanwhile, Emilia Clarke admitted that she couldn't turn down the chance to portray one of the most iconic female characters in cinema. According to Express, the 29-year old actress said, "You're not going to say no to Sarah Connor... you're just not." She said that she had long been following the 'Terminator' franchise and that it was a great opportunity to play a "fierce and strong warrior".

Clarke is best known for her role as dragon queen Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's hit television series 'Game of Thrones' where she received numerous accolades including nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award, Satellite Award, People's Choice Award, and Critics' Choice Television Award. She took over Linda Hamilton as the new Sarah Connor.

'Terminator Genisys 2' is a planned follow-up to the 2015 cinematic release of the same name. It is considered the sixth installment in the science-fiction action franchise created by James Cameron. Its predecessor was helmed by Alan Taylor and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Guardian/The Terminator, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese.
