Global venture capital had reached late 2012 levels of financing, increasing the numbers to US$10.4 billion or up 14% from the previous quarter according to Preqin, a private equity research firm.
European venture capital deals saw their numbers increase by 5% from the previous quarter and up 26% in aggregate value.
North America led the increase in venture capital deals with transactions valued at US$7.7 billion and 74% in aggregate value. The amount was made over 806 financing deals or 61% of 1315 venture capital deals.
In Asia, however, China experienced a decrease in overall venture capital deals, with the number of transactions down 46% from the last quarter and down 59% in aggregate value.
The healthcare industry attracted the most venture capital deals last quarter. Over a quarter or 28% of the funding was going to the sector, up from 19% in the previous quarter and the number of deals represented 16% of the total globally.
In the Preqin statement it said that early stage deals controlled in terms of the number of transactions, with seed financing making up about 20% of all deals worldwide.
