Dying Light: The Following Will Ship Q1 Next Year as Thanks to Fans According to Techland

Popular survival horror game, Dying Light, will release a DLC called "The Following" early next year. The release is a big thank you to the fans for the game's unexpected success.

According to Crossmap, developer Techland said that, "For Dying Light: The Following we're adding a number of bold game-changers to create one massive expansion. Something big that will give the game a brand-new flavor. We also kept a close eye on player feedback to help tailor what we've created here. Hopefully people will see that this new expansion is first and foremost, for the fans."

The zombie survival horror game is a crowded genre. Games like Resident Evil, Zombie U, and The Last of Us is already dominating the niche. However, Dying Light did not just manage to carve a space for itself, it also held its own to become a best-selling game. The PS4 and Xbox One release of the original Dying Light got a Matacritic score of 74/100, while the PC version got 75/100.

"The Following" DLC will have a few improvements from the original like a dune buggy and a crossbow. According to Louise Blaine of Games Radar, "From what I played at Gamescom, the countryside location was a lot of fun and the crossbow was a nice crunchy addition to your arsenal." Blaine also liked the customization you can do to your very own dirt buggy. The addition of a vehicle is a big gameplay element as the original game relied heavily on parkour mechanics. In this DLC, you can use the buggy to run over multiple zombies in your way.

The DLC will move the player from the urban area to the serene countryside. Techland calls the DLC a "massive expansion". The DLC is not just about additional items but also non-linear progression and a trust system.

Dying Light: The Following will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is free for PS4 owners with Season Pass. On the other hand, gamers can pay $14.99 for the DLC.
