Looks like the PlayStation VR will have another confirmed game when it launches next year. "Rush of Blood", an Until Dawn standalone game, has been confirmed for a PSVR release. This means that the game will be available for both PS4 and PS Vita since both systems support PSVR.
According to Dalton Cooper of Game Rant, Supermassive Games initially denied that the game will be released for PSVR. "By all accounts it appears the rumors were completely true: Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is an on-rails VR shooter experience, wherein the player is on a roller-coaster, and must shoot various enemies pulled from the main Until Dawn game."
Cooper also said that PSVR is required even if the game will support PlayStation Move and traditional controllers.
Executive Producer Simon Harris clarified the nature of the game. Gaming Bolt quoted him saying that, "It’s not DLC, or anything like that. It’s its own product for PlayStation VR; it’s just set in the world of Until Dawn..."
The original Until Dawn game was a surprise hit for the PS4 considering the odd genre and the mature theme. Until Dawn is essentially a graphical Interactive Fiction at heart. The game is like an interactive movie with a survival horror theme and multiple endings.
Harris explained that the player will play through the eyes of one of the main guys in the original game. He said that the players will experience the character's descent into madness.
Rail shooters are ancient games when talking about gaming timeline. This type of gameplay can be traced from the old shoot 'em ups developed for the early Atari consoles.
Until Dawn and Rush of Blood are two very different games even if they are in the same universe. Engadget reported that even Sam Harris felt that the fan base had mixed reactions when they announced Rush of Blood. However, releasing the game for the PSVR is certainly a fresh take on a rather old and dying genre.
